A dozen or so Bookers travelled to Annie’s lake house for our discussion of Theo of Golden, with about half of us having read the book.
Most of us found this an enjoyable read, appreciating the gentle kindness of the mysterious Theo as he related with the various Golden inhabitants.
Of course the author kept us in the dark as to who Theo really was and why he choose Golden as his residence. Some of the Bookers felt the story was just a little too contrived, but nevertheless, while reading it, it was interesting to try to figure out exactly what was going on.
In spite of the sad ending, the book was basically a feel-good experience. It was nice to be reminded, even if only in fiction, that there are well-meaning people in this world who can make a positive difference in the lives of others.
