The Lincoln Highway
by Amor Towles

The book was enjoyed by everyone in the book club. From the change in direction for their trip from west to east, cruising the highway in Emmett’s light blue Studebaker, to the crazy antics that occurred along the way, to winding up at the Lincoln Highway’s starting point at Times Square. Billy was thrilled to meet his beloved Professor Abacus Abernathe and how ironic it was that the professor wound up leaving the safety of his office in New York, running off to live a life of adventure on the rails with Ulysses.

At Woolly’s family’s lake house, Emmett did break with his moral code by placing the unconscious Duchess in the damaged boat and the boat in the water with his share of the cash at his feet. But in Emmett’s defense, he had been pushed well beyond his limit by Duchess’ repeated bad behavior, some of which threaten to land Emmett in jail. He was also saddened by Woolly’s suicide. Once Emmett’s now yellow Studebaker left Times Square, headed due west, the idea of a sequel was embraced by the group!
