The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan. The meeting was held on December 19th
2021, and as I recall we had homemade soups. Since it was the December
meeting I am sure we had an exceptionally good turnout.
After the department store that Carmen worked in closed, she had little cash and few
options. Her sister Sophie, the opposite of Carmen, is an attorney in Edinburgh. Sophie’s
client Mr. McCredie owns a small book shop in Edinburgh that has fallen on tough
times due to neglect. Sophie suggested that Carmen move in with her, her husband and
three small children with a fourth on the way and take a job at Mr. McCredies’s
bookshop.
Carmen accepts the position at the bookshop and sets about cleaning, organizing and
updating the bookshop to increase sales and keep the bookshop from foreclosure.
The author does a beautiful job of describing the bookshop and the ancient city of
Edinburgh. You can almost smell the dust of the bookshop and feel the cold of the old
city.
Is our book club up for another road trip?
The Christmas Book Shop would not be a holiday tale without a little romance, there is a
bit of a love triangle that is nicely written by the author-has who has a charming way of
telling a story.
