Date: 28 December 2014
Location: Reynolds & Linda
Once again we had a delightful December meeting at Linda and Reynolds’ home. The group was small which allowed a cozy and delicious supper with everyone around the table.
Fannie Flagg knows how to tell a story and The All Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion was no exception as she interwove the past and present, telling the story of two families while also including some interesting history. Some thought it was the best of her works. Her humor, plot twists, and engaging characters did not disappoint and provided an easy read. Her characters were well developed as we get to care about some and enjoy a few quirky over-the-top additions.
Listening to Fannie Flagg reading the book sounded like something we should have all done to fully appreciate the humor.
After the book raised awareness about the WASPs and women’s unpublicized roles in WWII, we decided to read the non-fiction book about the women in Oak Ridge who worked tirelessly in developing the atomic bomb.
