Becoming Madam Secretary
Our February book club meeting was hosted by Jaina and Conan at Luis Bar and Grill, at Main Street South.
Our book was Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Dray. It is historical fiction about Frances Perkins, the first woman US cabinet member. Most of us were unaware of her and her place in history. She was the Secretary of Labor in Franklin Roosevelt’s cabinet, a job she held for 12 years, and she played a large part in forming Roosevelt’s New Deal and Social Security Insurance. She showed great courage in a world dominated by men.
I think most of us enjoyed the book and learned about a heroic woman in our history.
