It was a week before Christmas, and all through the house,
Bookers were arriving, with and without their spouse.
They arrived with the expectation of an evening with friends,
And they were not disappointed, it was an evening of grins.
When the pre-discussion chit-chat was out of the way,
The discussion of the book got underway.
The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman,
Was the book we discussed, and it was awesome.
When a friend of theirs was found with a hole in his head,.
It was the Thursday Murder Club that took the lead.
Most had read the book and agreed parts were dark.
The details of Steven’s death were very stark.
With murders piling up, what was to be done,
What was the link, and was there just one?
As with all mysteries, there was misdirection
In this case, there were many things needing detection.
Who was the owner of the 777 phone call?
There were more than a few that could answer that call
And there was this fox, apparently a friend to all
Why was he there, and why did he fall?
Elizabeth was the one who put it together at last
It was the container, after all, it was a thing from the past
How about Computer Bob, who was dragged in to help, just in time?
Will he become part of the group that lives to solve crimes?
But overall the writing was a thing to enjoy,
And we moved on then to our dinner with shouts of “Oh Boy!”
As usual the dinner was a thing to behold
With more than enough dishes to try, truth be told.
And with appetites satiated and miles to still drive,
There were hugs and goodbyes and wishes to arrive alive.
So with good wishes to all, and shouts of good cheer,
Merry Christmas to all and a very happy New Year!
