Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
by Gabrielle Zevin

The bookers gathered to discuss Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin.
This book was the GoodReads Best Fiction winner of 2022 (beating out Jodi Picoult’s Wish You Were Here). Also, back in June 2015 we read Zevin’s The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, which was recommended by Bonnie and which we all enjoyed. So we decided to give this one a try.

It is basically a coming-of-age and love story (sort of), about Sam and Sadie, two very talented – maybe even genius – video game developers. Friends – and not – since childhood, they join forces to create some outstanding video games and then, together with another friend, Marx, form a very successful video games company. The book traces Sam and Sadie’s wavering friendship and their many triumphs and tragedies over several decades.

Of the fourteen bookers at the meeting, about half had read the entire book and, for the most part, enjoyed it — although it was a little long.

None of us are serious ‘gamers’, and we had a little trouble understanding the lure of video games. Even so, we found Zevin’s descriptions interesting and appealing, and we can certainly understand the book’s attraction to actual ‘gamers’. And, moreover, Zevin is just wonderful at developing characters that readers really care about.
