Our September Book Club meeting was wonderful, with a special thanks to Annie
and Pete for hosting us at their lovely lake house. We enjoyed a beautiful setting
and terrific food, with a special shout-out to Nancy. She drove all the way from
Atlanta and brought Jodi Picoult’s signature cocktail, Sex on the Beach. It was
delightful! The gathering included most of the Bookers, which resulted in a group
photo: Thank you, Conan, for taking the picture!
Most everyone had finished the book and really enjoyed it. Even Bob was
caught off guard by the story, which shifted significantly mid-way when the chapters
were reduced to one sentence each. At this point we were shocked to discover
Diana was still in New York, battling COVID in ICU, and had never left for the
Galapagos Islands. The ending left the reader hanging, which was frustrating, but
seemed to be in keeping with the story. All in all, a good time was had by the group!
